Tips and Tricks to engage your worksite wellness committee

Wednesday, April 22, 2015  noon – 1 pm
3 Summit Park Auditorium (Lower Level)
Independence, OH
(just west of Rockside at 77 exit)

Changing behavior takes many committed individuals in any large organizations. We all know that we want a diverse worksite wellness committee made up of representative of every part of our organization. Without a common core of knowledge how can these non-wellness trained committee members easily work as a committed unit. Through use of a Certified Wellness Advocate approach, each member of the committee  is setup on a a continuous improvement process, ultimately awarding the Consumer Wellness Advocate (CWA) designation to each member. The CWA allows individual study using a 10-Dimensional Prevention Through Wellness Model.

Alida Moonen, PhD, will present her experience with implementing this strategy at Summa Health System. This approach gives her a comprehensive universal approach to allow personalization of each committee member’s journey to wellness and providing the group a platform for greater engagement and cooperation.

Don’t underestimate the value of employee self care!

Tuesday, February 10, 2015  noon – 1 pm
3 Summit Park Auditorium (Lower Level)
Independence, OH
(just west of Rockside at 77 exit)

When providing wellness at the workplace, we strive for a positive effect on employee health.  Before implementing a walking challenge or sharing tips on weight loss, the empowerment of medical self-care will have the most significant financial impact on the entire health care system. Medical self-care programs enable employees and their families to make informed decisions about whether they can treat themselves at home or if they should seek professional medical care.

What type of professional care?  Emergency, urgent care, minute clinics, express care, doctor face time or nurse on call lines.  Employees need to make informed decisions on where to go for care.

Valerie Sophocleous, a registered nurse and wellness educator for Sigma II Employee Benefit Consultants will speak on how to empower your workforce in the basic steps of medical self-care and managing health care. Valerie has been with Sigma II for seven years and is a Welcoa faculty  member and an American Lung Association Freedom from Smoking Facilitator.

Understanding Vein Disease and its Effects on your Employees

Tuesday, September 23rd, noon – 1 pm
3 Summit Park Auditorium (Lower Level)
Independence, OH
(just west of Rockside at 77 exit)

More than 80 million Americans suffer from vein disease. Ignoring the condition can result in symptoms such as pain, fatigue, itching, burning and swelling.

Unfortunately, vein disease doesn’t go away on its own and may only get worse over time. The good news is that with today’s advanced technology, vein disease is treatable through safe and effective techniques that don’t require surgery.

Some sobering statistics:

-Vein problems are among the most common chronic conditions in North America
-In the US, venous ulcers cause the loss of 2 million workdays per year
-The prevalence of varicose veins in Western adult populations is estimated at 25% to
33% of women and 10% to 20% of men
-DVT with its risk of PE may be the most preventable cause of death among people
hospitalized today in the United States

Melissa Wess, Community Liaison at Vein Clinics of America, partners with Cleveland area schools and corporations to provide education on vein disease to employees, staff and faculty through employer-sponsored health fairs and scheduled Lunch-and-Learn presentations. As part of the Wellness Council of Northeast Ohio’s goal to raise awareness of wellness issues in the workplace, Melissa will be discussing the symptoms associated with vein disease, as well as the importance of diagnosis and treatment.

A must-attend meeting for employers in need of wellness vendors.

Lunch provided.
